Lika SMLAX rotary encoder - Dual output: absolute and incremental

Absolute and incremental + reference interfacesSMLAX-roterende encoder - Lika Electronic

Lika Electronic's SMLAX rotary encoder features both absolute and incremental sensing and processing electronics in one package. Thus, the SMLAX rotary encoder can read the absolute and incremental tracks encoded on the ring's magnetic tape.

Absolute and incremental measurement system

For example, the absolute position information can be used to detect the position of the stator/rotor at motor start-up, while the incremental information enables speed control. The absolute measurement system achieves 14-bit resolution (16,384 cpr) over the entire circumference and provides the absolute position and error bit via the SSI and BiSS interfaces. The incremental measurement system has a resolution of up to 4,096 PPR and provides square-wave signals via the linedriver output circuit SMLAX can also carry reference mark information once per revolution.

Magnetic sensor technology

Magnetic sensor technology enables non-contact and frictionless operation without components subject to wear or (metal) fatigue. Read more about incremental and absolute encoders.

MRA / 262 segmented ring

SMLAX encoder is paired with a segmented ring where the absolute track and incremental + reference track are encoded. The ring is designed in two parts for simplified installation in large-diameter axes up to 230 mm / 9.055 ", where access for mounting or maintenance is difficult. It easily fits around very large shafts in inaccessible mounting areas without loss of information at the joints. The pieces are connected from the sides of the shaft and then clamped around the shaft in a very easy and fast way.

IECEx certification for use in hazardous areas

SMLAX is IECEx-certified for use in hazardous areas and marked as suitable for Zone 2, Gas Group IIC and Temperature Class T3. It guarantees high resistance to dust, moisture, oil, grease, water jets and chemicals and offers excellent durability under harsh conditions, adverse temperatures (-25°C to +85°C, -13°F to +185°F) and shock and vibration thanks to encapsulated electronics and the IP67 protection enclosure.
