Activation and protection of automatic sliding doors
Are you going on vacation? A business trip abroad? Visiting a friend in the hospital? You come across them everywhere, automatic sliding doors. When passing a sliding door, the activation and protection of automatic sliding doors seems very normal. But how does an automatic sliding door actually work? Which access sensors are used? In this application example we explain a number of access sensors.
"The safe solution for the activation and protection of sliding doors according to EN 16005"
Safe and effective
How do you ensure that these sliding doors can be used in an efficient and safe manner? How do you ensure that no accidents occur? BBC Bircher smart access is the sensor specialist for automatic doors and gates, public transport and industry.
Combine technologies from the prime series
Radar motion detectors and active and passive infrared detectors can be deployed to detect people and objects as they approach a door. Combine the technologies in BBC Bircher smart access Prime production line, that makes use of radars and active infrared technology. To provide effective, efficient and safe access for visitors and objects that approach a door, different access sensors can be used. The image uses the PrimeMotion, PrimeScan and PrimeTec. The Prime product line from BBC Bircher smart access uses radars and active infrared techniques.
The benefits of Prime-line products:
- Activation through radar technology
- Active infrared curtain as self-protection
- Watches over the perimeter areas of the gate zone
Depending on the door mass, the use of electric safety edges and safety strips is recommended for the closing edges. These protect people responsibly from entrapment and bruising in the danger zone of the sliding door.
Accurately automatic and safe sliding doors open
PrimeTec B
For the opening of automatic doors, motion detector PrimeTec B can be used with radar technology. The infrared curtain PrimeScan can be used as an alternative to the light barrier. Different functions can be set for specific situations, such as field geometry of the active infrared curtain and of the radar.
Benefits PrimeTec B:
- Easy and clear operation via keys and LCD display
- Exact positioning of the AIR barrier thanks to the display of the inclination angle on a clear scale
- Automatic recognition of the test input
- Radar and active infrared output polarity free and short-circuit proof
- Quick guide mounted on the sensor with a QR code for direct online to the manual
Safety of persons in the danger zone
PrimeScan B
PrimeScan B protects persons who are in the danger zone of the opened door leaf. The active infrared screen covers the entire door zone on the side of the sliding door (the secondary closing edge). Is a person in the room next to the door? The sliding door will remain blocked until the person is out of the zone.
Benefits of PrimeScan B access sensor:
- Easy and clear operation via keys and LCD display
- Exact positioning of the AIR barrier thanks to the display of the inclination angle on a clear scale
- Automatic recognition of the test input
- Radar and active infrared output polarity free and short-circuit proof
- Quick guide mounted on the sensor with a QR code for direct online to the manual

The doors open only when necessary
PrimeMotion B
The activation sensor (PrimeMotion B) is based on radar technology and opens wide and high sliding doors reliably, preventing unnecessarily long opening periods thanks to directional detection. Four DIP switches and a potentiometer make it easy to use.

COMPLETE SOLUTION FOR THE ACTIVATION AND SECURITY OF SLIDING DOORS
The PrimeTec B protects and opens
The proven radar technology from Bircher Reglomat is used for the opening of automatic doors. The infrared curtain serves as protection for people and can also be used as a light lock alternative. The PrimeTec B has various functions and can therefore be used for a variety of specific situations, for example the field geometry of the active infrared curtain and of the radar. The PrimeTec B can also be used with wide and high throughput sizes.
PrimeScan B monitors the secondary closing edge
As the name implies, the PrimeScan B scans and also fulfills a protection function. The active infrared screen provides the optimum coverage of the lateral door zone. The PrimeScan B protects persons who are in the opening door leaf, the danger zone of the opening door.
PrimeMotion B opens and saves energy
PrimeMotion B focuses on movement. The activation sensor uses radar technology to reliably open and close sliding doors. Thanks to the directional detection, the PrimeMotion B can prevent unnecessary long opening times and incorrect openings of the sliding doors. The PrimeMotion B has a clear and understandable operation via four DIP switches and the potentiometer.

Safety mats are used for the detection of people or objects on a defined surface. Safety mats, also called pressure mats, are used as a safety zone around robots or as a safety zone when loading or operating a machine. With machine safety it often happens that other safety components are not applicable and the use of a safety mat is the only solution.
Safety mats offer the solution for passage control, activation of revolving doors and distribution at locks. Read more about switch mats and safety mats.
Benefits of safety mats:
- Robust tread with integrated safety switch
- Multiple switching zones possible
- Individual design
