Pallet stacker/destacker with radar equipment
EN 415-4:2025 specifies a particular sequence for stopping and restarting the pallet magazine when a forklift enters the area.
Shown here is an example of the solution used before the introduction of radar technology: the forklift must first activate the first loop (1), then the light curtain (2) and finally the second loop (3) to stop the machine. The reverse sequence automatically restarts the machine (3 2 1).
Warning: safety is not guaranteed if an operator remains in the hazardous area and the forklift leaves the area in the correct sequence.
- Does this solution really meet the requirements of the standard?
- Is it safe enough?
What other solutions are available?
Inxpect provides a higher level of safety with a single radar sensor (instead of 2 loops and 1 light curtain).
Beyond the state of the art
Inxpect radar technology is the ideal solution for detecting the presence of people and preventing machines from restarting unintentionally. Inxpect smart sensors can detect even micro-movements of the human body (such as breathing) and prevent the machine from restarting, even when the operator is standing still in the area.
Unlike the loops and light curtain, Inxpect smart sensors ensure safety even when the forklift leaves the area in the correct sequence and a second operator remains in the area, as the sensors detect the person and bring the machine to a safe state.
Benefits of protection with smart sensors
- No inductive loop required. Reduced costs and maintenance.
- Safe operation of the pallet magazine. If an operator is still in the area when the machine attempts to restart automatically, the Inxpect smart sensors will detect the person and prevent the machine from restarting.
- Cost-effective: a single control unit can connect up to six smart sensors.
- High safety level: up to PL d / SIL 2.
Higher safety with a simple solution
Just one sensor to comply with EN 415-4
A single smart sensor from the 200 series, configured with 3 detection fields and PROFIsafe communication, can detect a forklift or person using the same sequence as defined in EN 415-4:2025.
Inxpect smart sensors operate reliably where optical sensors may generate false alarms, as they are resistant to dust, smoke, water and debris generated by the production process. Inxpect radar technology provides a high level of safety without compromising productivity.
Inxpect safety functions
Access protection
When an operator approaches the hazardous area, the system brings the machine to a safe state.
Restart prevention
The system prevents machines from restarting while operators are in the hazardous area.
