New radar sensors from Inxpect: Plug&Safe Line
Inxpect has expanded its range of radar sensors with a new product line: the Plug&Safe Line. This product line includes two compact radar sensors (S202A-MV and S202A-MS) designed for fast installation, intuitive configuration and reliable machine safety.
Both sensors comply with the ISO 10218-2:2025 standard, which requires the use of presence sensing devices when the visibility of the operator inside the cell cannot be guaranteed. They also support applications according to ISO 12895, where such sensors are required when there is full access to hazardous zones.
Visibility at all times, even in dust and smoke
Like other Inxpect sensors, the Plug&Safe Line uses 60 GHz radar technology. As a result, the sensors are unaffected by dust, smoke or dirt and are certified according to SIL 2 and PL d. This ensures compliance with the highest safety standards.
Two variants:
S202A-MV – Presence sensing
The S202A‑MV uses 60 GHz FMCW radar technology to detect the presence of people in a hazardous zone, even with minimal movement, such as breathing. The sensor prevents machine restart as long as motion is detected, for example after an emergency stop or during automatic restart. It monitors an area up to 4 × 4 × 2.5 metres and is easily configured using three parameters: height, length and width. The sensor features a 5‑pin M12 connector for connection to the control unit.
S202A‑MS – Safeguarding
The S202A‑MS also uses 60 GHz FMCW radar technology and functions as a virtual safety light curtain. As soon as someone enters the monitored zone, the sensor stops the hazardous movement of a machine or robot cell. The sensor monitors a ±5 centimetre wide zone with two adjustable parameters: height (up to 2.5 metres) and length (up to 4 metres). This sensor is also equipped with a 5-pin M12 connector for fast and robust connection to the control unit.
Easy to install and configure
The sensors in the Plug&Safe Line are fully optimised for fast and error-free integration. For the S202A-MS, only the height and length of the zone need to be defined; the S202A-MV requires a third parameter: width. Everything else is automatically managed. Configuration is done using Inxpect Safety Studio, which provides a 3D visualisation of the detection volume.
