Active dynamic filtering (ADF)- Harmonic filters

In order to reduce the number of malfunctions, lower maintenance costs, and prevent energy wastage, a "healthy" voltage and current are necessary. In addition, standards and guidelines such as IEEE519, IEC61000, and the standards for ship and land installations enforce a healthy voltage.

Harmonic filters

Components such as frequency controllers, LED lighting, and sustainable energy sources pollute the power grid. Therefore, the use of active harmonic filters in modern installations is a must. An ADF makes the current waveform clean and sinusoidal so that voltage and current are "healthy" again.

ADF Power Tuning from Comsys makes energy use more efficient. Your processes run more stably, maintenance costs are reduced, and the active dynamic filter ensures that you comply with international standards and guidelines. Read more about the operation of active filters in the white paper.

ADF Power Tuning features:

  • All power quality problems can be solved
  • Continuous adaptation to load and installation within 5ms
  • Overloading is not possible
  • Freely programmable
  • Less losses
  • Resonance detection

Active harmonic/dynamic filter - P25

The active dynamic filter ADF P25 has a compact design and offers all the benefits of the existing P100. Despite its compact design, the active dynamic filter P25 is suitable for filtering out harmonic pollution, improving cos-phi, and eliminating flicker and imbalance in smaller installations, control cabinets, and machines. The P25 is suitable for wall mounting or for installation in a control panel.

Arjan Pit: 'Approvals such as UL, DNV-GL, ABS, and CE make the P25 the ideal filter for use in industrial and offshore applications!'

Sensorless control

For filtering out harmonics, "sensorless control" is possible. Application of current transformers is not necessary. The active dynamic filter can be monitored in PLC or SCADA systems via Modbus TCP or connected via the (remote) monitoring systems of fortop. The numerous approvals such as UL, DNV-GL, ABS, and CE make the P25 the ideal filter for use in industrial and offshore applications.

P25 Active Dynamic Filter Features:

  • Filtering out harmonics, poor cos-phi, and imbalance
  • Compensation capacity: 30 A
  • Power expandable by parallel connection of multiple units
  • Configuration and reading via web interface
  • Sensorless control (application of current transformers not necessary)
  • Communication options (I/O, Modbus TCP/UIP, Profibus*)
  • Protection class: IP20 and IP21

Active dynamic filter - P100

The active dynamic filter P100 is the industrial, cost-effective standard for locations where space is limited. The P100 is universally applicable for filtering out harmonic pollution, improving cos-phi and eliminating flicker and unbalance. The filter is suitable for wall mounting and available in different powers up to 150 A in a single unit. The active dynamic filters are modularly expandable up to a maximum of 18 parallel connected systems.

Connect the module to a PLC or SCADA system

"Sensorless control" is possible for filtering out harmonics. It is then not necessary to use current transformers. The unit can be connected to a PLC or SCADA system via the Modbus TCP port or linked to fortop's (remote) monitoring systems. The many approvals such as UL, DNV-GL, ABS and CE make the P100 the ideal active dynamic filter for industrial and offshore applications.

P100 Active Dynamic filter properties:

  • Filtering out harmonics, flicker, poor cos-phi and unbalance

Active dynamic filter - P200/PPM200

The P200 is one of the fastest active filters in the world. The P200 eliminates harmonics up to the 100th order and is the only filter capable of removing inter-harmonics, resonances, and high-frequency pollution. No current transformers are required for the application of the P200.

One of the fastest active filters in the world

The use of sustainable energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines will result in more resonances, inter-harmonics, and high-frequency disturbances. Only the ADF P200 is capable of solving these disturbances.

P200 active dynamic filter features:

  • Eliminates harmonics, resonances, and HF pollution
  • P200 version is the IP20 solution for wall mounting
  • PPM200 is the OEM version suitable for installation in distribution panels
  • Compensation capacity: 100 A
  • Configuration and reading via web interface
  • Sensorless control (application of current transformers not necessary)

70% reduction of harmonics by inserting ADFs

During the final construction phase of a large hospital, electrical issues were discovered. After conducting measurements, it was discovered that medical equipment was not functioning as expected. It was concluded that the voltage quality did not meet European standards. The problem worsened when emergency power was needed during a power outage.

Eliminating higher harmonics

To meet the standard and maintain guarantees related to valuable medical equipment, the hospital looked for a solution that would eliminate electrical disturbances (harmonics). Read more about the solution through installation of active dynamic filters.
